The Adoption Process
If you have made it to this page, it most likely means you may be interested in adopting a
baby or two to add to your family. If that is the reason, then I am thrilled to be able to help
you! There are a few steps that need to be taken in order to actually adopt a rat from me,
and they are listed below:
Submit an Adoption Application and have it approved
- The Adoption Application lets me know that you are interested in adopting from
me, and it also gives me a chance to get to know you a little better. The application
is used to screen potential adopters. Please note, if you have never owned rats
before or are unsure of some of the questions, please feel free to include that
information in the comments section of the application, or you may email me. Once
your application has been submitted, you will receive a reply within 48 hours. This
reply would let you know if you were either approved, pending or denied. If you are
approved, you move on to step #2. If you are pending, that means there are just a
few things I'd like to clarify before making a final decision. If you are denied, then I
am sorry but you would not be able to adopt from this Rodentry.
Your Name and Preferences are added to the Wait List
- Once your Adoption Application is approved, you will be listed on the Wait List.
The Wait List basically means that you are "in line" to adopt babies from upcoming
litters. This list works on a first come, first served basis - dependent upon the date
that your Adoption Application is received and approved. Please keep in mind that I
will be choosing the rat(s) I plan to keep for breeding purposes first, then second
pick automatically goes to any breeder(s) that may be on the list. Then regular
adopters choose their little one(s) according to their place in line on the list.
Once on the Wait List, you will begin to receive updates via email on upcoming and
current litters. These updates will let you know your place in line, as well as when
you are able to reserve your babies.
*If you are on my Wait List and for what ever reason are unable to adopt from me,
please contact me as soon as possible!*
Reserve Your New Babies
- The step everyone loves! Through the Wait List update emails, you will be
notified of when it will be your turn to choose your babies. I usually start going
through the Wait List when the babies are 2 weeks old to start reserves. This is a
very important time, as there will be others waiting for you to make your choice(s)
so they can have their turn. So, you must make sure you are checking your email
regularly and reply when it is required to hold your place in line. If you do not
answer a required email within 48 hours, you may be skipped over to accomodate
the others in line after you.
Pick Ups!
- After everyone has chosen, and the babies are 5 weeks of age, they are ready to
go to their new homes. I do usually prefer a group pick up for all adopters from the
same litters, but it is possible to set up a separate pick up date and time if
necessary.I operate as a closed Rodentry, so I do not allow adopters into the
Rodentry to pick up their babies. This is done solely for the health and safety of my
rats. A signed copy of the Adoption Contract and any applicable adoption fees
would need to be received before the rats can be taken home. Both the contract
and fees can be submitted to me either before the pick up, or at the time of pick up
of your new babies.

Adoption Fees
My adoption fees are exactly the same, no matter what variety of rat(s) you are
adopting. Payment is accepted in the form of Cash, Money Order or Paypal only at
this time. Please contact me for more information. The adoption fees are as follows:
Adoption Fees $20 for one $30 for two $10 for each additional rat

Adoption Contract
The contract is an agreement between the breeder and adopter in regards to
certain ways the rat is cared for. The terms and conditions included in the Contract
must be agreed upon before any adoption will take place. Please read over the
Adoption Contract for these terms.
Additional Notes
Some things I'd like to make clear here, just so all adopters are fully aware of my
expectations for these babies.
- The vast majority of rats born here are adopted out on strict Non-Breeding contracts.
The only exceptions made to this rule would be for other breeders that have been approved
to use my rats for breeding purposes.
- Rats are adopted out in same-sex pairs or trios in most cases. Rarely are single rats
adopted out. This would be acceptable only if you have other rats of the same sex or
spayed/neutered rats that he/she can live with.
- It is expected that every adopter would provide an appropriate living environment for their
adopted rats, which includes (but is not limited to):
~ A cage that is of appropriate size with rat-safe bar spacing for rats
~ A balanced diet that should include fresh fruits and vegetables
~ Safe beddings - like Yesterday's News, Aspen, Soft Sorbent - NOT Pine or Cedar
~ Daily handling and time out of their cages
~ Constant supervision around small children and other pets
*If for any reason, you can no longer keep the rat(s) you adopt from me, I must be
contacted to approve a rehoming situation. If a suitable home cannot be found for them,
they are to be returned to my care - they are NOT to be released, sold or given to anyone
else.
*My rats are not ever to be used as food or to produce food for other animals - they are to
be cherished pets.
